In photovoltaic (PV) mounting systems, U-shaped pipe clamps are primarily used to "grip" the support columns, securing them to various foundations.
Used with pre-embedded bolts
A set of bolts (usually two) is pre-embedded during the pouring of the concrete foundation.
During installation, the base plate of the support column is placed between the pre-embedded bolts. A U-shaped pipe clamp is then used to pass over the column from above, with the clamp's two legs passing through slotted holes in the base plate or pressing directly onto the base plate. Finally, nuts are used to lock it in place.
Advantages: Installation is very flexible, allowing for minor adjustments in all directions to align the support array.
Used in conjunction with helical piles and other pile foundations
In ground-mounted photovoltaic power stations, helical piles typically have a flange at the top. The support column is placed on the flange, and then U-shaped clamps are used to hold the column from both sides. The feet of the clamps pass through holes in the flange and are tightened with nuts. This is the most common method for fixing C-shaped or U-shaped steel columns in ground-mounted power stations.
Used for fixing diagonal braces or tie rods
In areas where enhanced stability is required, U-shaped clamps are used to fix the connectors of diagonal braces or tie rods to the main beam or column.
